ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is an international standard that provides a framework for managing OH&S risks and opportunities. The aim and intended outcomes of the OH&S management system are to prevent work-related injury and ill health to workers and to provide safe and healthy workplaces. ISO 45001:2018, published in March 2018, is the current edition of the standard.

ISO 45001:2018 is now based on the ISO High-Level Structure (HLS). This provides identical structure, core text and common terms with core definitions designed to implement into multiple ISO management systems standards. This ensures streamlined integration with other ISO management systems and is a simple process. The HLS uses core text which will be in every management system standard.

Contextualized text is then used depending on what the management system is – whether it be Quality, Safety or environment. While the HLS is followed, ISO 45001 does not include requirements specific to other management systems, such as those for Quality, Social Responsibility, Environment, Security or Financial Management, though its elements can be aligned or integrated with those of other management systems.

ISO 45001 is maintained by ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) and is administered by certification bodies like The Registrar Company.
